EXTRAWURST

It’s all about the sausage: at the general meeting of a tennis club in the German provinces, a vote is held on the purchase of a new barbecue. Suddenly the suggestion comes up to buy a separate barbecue for the only Turkish member, as devout Muslims are not allowed to bring their barbecue food into contact with pork. A well-intentioned idea, but one that leads to major discussions about belonging, identity and tolerance and puts the club to the test. How many rights should a majority grant a minority? Do we have to tolerate religions even if we reject them? Is there also a German culture at the barbecue? And are vegetarians actually also a religious community? This is about more than just a barbecue. It’s about how we live together.

“Extrawurst” is currently the most frequently performed comedy in German theaters – and for good reason: the audience experiences in a subtle, hilarious and highly topical way how a society can completely disintegrate.
